A truck carrying honeybees had an accident in Washington state, resulting in it’s overturning and the spewing of it’s cargo across a motorway.
The accident resulted in boxes that, according to KIRO 7 News, contained “millions of live bees”, being scattered along the highway.
Local news reported that the truck had overturned at around 3:30am just outside the city of Lynnwood as the truck attempted to join an interstate motorway.
Each of the scattered boxes contain around 5,000 live beens. Some were crushed in the accident, whilst many were set free as a result of the accident.
A team of beekeepers were dispatched to the scene of the accident, where they attempted to use smoke to calm the bees before the sun rose, which would have risen temperatures and agitated the bees.
As the morning broke the fire bridgade were called in to dose the remaining boxes of bees with foam as a safety measure, resulting in their death.
No one was hurt in the accident and officials are waiting for the remaining insects to be properly contained before the truck is towed away.
